ProgramsFriends of Blackwater created three major programs that expand on our land, water, and wildlife protection work. A heritage program, the JR Clifford Project celebrates the life and legacy of JR Clifford, West Virginia’s first African American Attorney, whose famous 1898 civil rights case insured equal schooling for “colored children” in the state. The North Fork Watershed Project focuses on improving water quality in the Blackwater watershed. Our campaign for High Allegheny National Park promotes changing the management of the Monongahela National Forest to National Park and Preserve status. This will increase tourism and enhance protection for this remarkable piece of public land. |
